Girls Basketball

Even though our record shows the the same as last year, I feel the team has improved tremendously. We are still a young team, but unfortunately we will lose two important seniors. I have many great things I could brag about with this team, but the thing about our team that stands out the most is that the girls don't give up without a fight. We had about five or six game that were really close, and they were the hardest ones to lose. I am very proud of my team and can't wait for next season. Even though summertime is very busy for the girls, we are looking into a team summer camp. It should be a fun and valuable experience.

When the CRC selections and all area selections are made, I bet we will have a couple of girls on 1st and 2nd team and/or Honorable Mention.

Boys Basketball

he Rising City boys' basketball team wrapped up its season with a loss to Prague in sub-district play. The season ends at 2-16 for the Terriers, but that didn't come without dramatics.

The season high point came at home against Meridian. Trailing by 26 at halftime, the Terriers made a remarkable recovery in the second half. Rising City shutdown the Mustangs in the third quarter and outscored them 24-3. Rising City continued to control the game and took the lead late and held on to pull out the 48-47 win. The game was highlighted by Derek Prososki's eight three-pointers and Tyler Fozzard's 17 points. The Terriers picked up a double-digit win the following week at Elba.

Tyler Fozzard was the leading scorer for Rising City this season. The senior averaged 11.5 points per game and finished 70-112 at the line. Derek Prososki netted 33 threes and the season and fellow senior Shay Sell led the team in rebounding at 6.3 boards per game. Kyle Creeach had 42 assists in his final season. Senior Coby Smith was a solid sixth-man for Rising City and contributed on defense and at the line, hitting 61.5% from the stripe. Trent Zollars also came out for his
Senior year and helped from the bench.

The Rising City Terriers wish to extend a fond thank you to everyone that supported us during the 2007-2008 season.

Little Terrier Basketball Camp

Coach Schoenrock and I wanted to get an activity going where we could get the younger students involved. We thought a little camp or clinic for basketball would be a great ideal, since it was high school basketball season. We invited the elementary students, 1st thru 6th grades, to the gym for three Saturdays in February. Both Coach Schoenrock and I were very pleased with the turnout, and how the camp went. We had a great time helping and teaching the younger students. We also need to credit our boys and girls basketball members, as they took part in teaching also. We also feel we have started something the we would like to continue to have every year. It's great to get the younger kids involved and they enjoy it just as much.
